For Fans Of: Foxygen, Pixies, Courtney Barnett.

The Details:
One of Rough Trade’s latest signings, Goat Girl have recently released their debut a-side single, ‘Country Sleaze’ and ‘Scum’. Featuring the uniquely named: Clottie Cream, Rosy Bones, Naima Jelly and L.E.D, this teenage quartet are “Four people playing guitars, bass and drums who have the ability to make you feel alive again, says their label. With their innovative post-punk and grunge sound, these South Londoners have been causing quite the stir south of the river.

Produced by Margo Broom, who has worked with artists such as Fat White Family and Telegram, ‘Country Sleaze’ and ‘Scum’ both contain raw and unapologetic commentary on the world. I am disgusted and ashamed of this so-called human race,” Clottie Cream slurs with sedated but furious vocals. How can an entire nation be so fucking thick?”, Goat Girl similarly questions and criticises the state of the world in ‘Scum’.

Instead of shouting and spitting their views on dirty politics like Slaves or Sleaford Mods, Goat Girl take on a more subtle approach with their natural and laid-back attitude. With just two-cords, the basic guitar riff in ‘Country Sleaze’ allows Creams lyrics to take center stage and control the melody. Her sultry vocals and savvy attitude is reminiscent to that of Courtney Barnett.

The music video takes on a DIY approach with the band even posting for helpers on Facebook in return for a beer or beverage of your choice”. Warning viewers of the strobe lighting, the distorted and psychedelic video perfectly matches their gritty sound of twisted guitars and thrashing drums.

Having recently toured with Parquet Courts, and shows coming soon with The Lemon Twigs, YAK and a support slot with Girl Band on their UK tour in December, Goat Girl are rapidly making a name for themselves.
